There we will never be human rights in this world so long as these rights are not written, universally accepted, known and demanded.
Fortunately, half the work has been done as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written, then unanimously approved by the United Nations General Assembly December 10, 1948.
This document took two years to write and was heavily negotiated by nations of many different political, economic and religious backgrounds. Despite the difficulties in getting agreement on the first internationally accepted human rights policy in history, nations were committed to creating a universally accepted human rights document following the devastation and barbaric crimes of World War II. This human rights policy has since become the foundation for many treaties and part of several constitutions.
The thirty individual human rights within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights must be fully known and demanded in order to make them a reality.
2009 is the "United Nations Year of Human Rights Learning." The final line of the resolution for this U.N. document reads as follows:
"...every woman, man and child, in order to realize his or her full human potential, must be made aware of all his or her human rights and fundamental freedoms."
These freedoms are expressed in the thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as expressed here: www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml . You can also see short videos on each human right at www.youthforhumanrights.org .
Please read and understand these human rights because they are yours and without knowing them, you, your friends and family are less protected. Also, please sign the online petition linked below which calls on governments to ensure that human rights are known and implemented so that they can become a reality.
