Singapore Police have asked Riau Islands police to tighten security at all ports in the province following the escape of an alleged Jamaah Islamiyah leader from detention in Singapore on Wednesday night."Singapore has contacted us and they want us to take measures to prevent the suspect, Slamet Kastari, from escaping to Indonesia," Riau Islands Police Chief Brig Gen Sutarman said here on Thursday.
Slamet reportedly escaped from a detention center in Singapore at 4.05 pm local time. He was accused of planing to hijack a plane and crash it onto Singapore`s Changi Airport about five years ago.
Sutarman said Singapore police had asked for close coordination with Riau Islands police to recapture the fugitive. "They have also sent out a red (alert) notice," he said.
