Singapore couple jailed for abusing Indonesian maid

Singapore (ANTARA News/dpa) - A couple who fined their Indonesian maid for mistakes in addition to physically abusing the woman was sentenced to jail, news reports said on Wednesday.

Lim Yi Khung, a 42-year-old aircraft engineer for Singapore Airlines, was sentenced to four weeks in jail while Aileen Khaw Lay Hoon, a 31-year-old former flight attendant, was sentenced to six weeks.

They are both appealing Tuesday's conviction, The Straits Times said.

The maid, Ida Lestari Ningsih, 25, ran away from her employer's home with bruises on February 27 last year.

Lim had kicked her on both sides of her hip, the district court heard. His Malaysian wife had squeezed her breast, hit her eye, grabbed her hair and banged her head on the floor. end
