Singaporean in Jakarta launches humanitarian project
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia-based Singapore community grouped in the Singapore Association in Indonesia (SAI), Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia (SingCham) and the Singapore Women`s Group (SWG) has been active in fostering relations with the various segments of people in Indonesia.
Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia Mr Ashok Mirpuri made the remarks during a gala dinner hosted by the community here Sunday evening.
"They have been active in providing humanitarian aid to flood victims in Jakarta last year and to victims of other natural disasters in other parts of the country including tsunami in Aceh," said Mr Mirpuri.
On the occasion, the SAI, SingCham and SWG, launched an Education for The Needy Fund.
The fund is a major community service project for raising funds to support educational and literary initiatives in Jakarta for school-age children of poor families.
The ambassador also said projects financed by this Fund may cover books for school libraries, school uniforms, financial support for school repair and renovation, furniture and other equipments.
"The Singaporeans here will continue promoting existing close relations," he said. (*) END
