A three-alarm fire broke out on Main Street and West roadway in Vancouver early this morning. Slickity Jim's Chat n' Chew, a favorite of hipsters and locals alike, was destroyed, as were Kishu Island, Militant Penguin, Lugz Coffee, and United Professional Accounting. The fire started in Kishu Island and spread to the other businesses, all housed in the same wood-framed building.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Slickety Jim’s owner Mike Zalman.

“Perhaps cry.”

Asked if his insurance would cover his losses, he said: “I hope so.”

The adjacent apartment building was evacuated, but the fire department kept the fire from spreading.

(I heard the bad news from Kaitlin)

That's such a shame! I loved Slickety Jims. I hope Mike can re-open it somehow.

A great place and a serious loss to the Main St. community and Vancouver at large.  Dang..

That's really sad news. Best of luck to all the businesses that were affected. Slickety Jim's served one of the best breakfast's in Mount Pleasant. It will be greatly missed, until it re-opens.

Glad I got my last slickity breakfast in yesterday afternoon...really going to miss this place and hope Mike gets it re-opened. Think I have a dogs playing poker picture in storage I'd happily donate to get things back on the walls..

Jusr caught the news when I got home and very sad to find the my FAVORITE burger, bennie joint went up in smokle.   Mike you must be crushed but once you have a new space I have a small request  ---  make sure we can still see you dancing while you're cooking in those dang cute boots.

Zocalo is also gone. I loved the contemporary mexican restaurant for both the food and entertainement! It will so be missed.
