Slumdog star's home is demolished in Mumbai: India
The instant glory of slumdog success didnnot stoped the Mumbai Muncipal Authorities from demolising the house of junior artist of Slundog Millionare.Unfortunately the movie earned millions but the junior actor is not in a position to buy accomodation.
Slum dogs slum house has been demolised.
Mumbai is one of the costliest city in Asia, and one of the biggest Slum Dharavi is here. After so many years of effort these slums are still increasing. The financial capital of India is facing a big threat of uncontroled urbanisation, and unfortunately everyone cannot be slumdog millionaire.
The Mumbai slum home of one of the child stars of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire has been demolished by city authorities.
Reports say that police smacked the boy, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, with a bamboo stick before ordering him out.
The authorities claim he and other families were squatting on land that was owned by the government.
He played a younger version of one of the main characters in the film, which scooped eight Oscars.
The family lived in a temporary makeshift shelter made up of plastic sheets over bamboo sticks, in a slum near Bandra East in Mumbai.
The mother of the child actor said that she did not know what would happen to her family now.
"Our house has been broken down by officials. We have not been given any alternate accommodation. Earlier the authorities had said they would give us a house. But I don't think that will happen any more," Shamim Ismail .
Municipal official, Uma Shankar Mistry, who was present during the demolition, said that the authorities only razed temporary and illegal homes which had recently been erected next to the slum.
He said the houses were in an area that was meant for a public garden.

I am speechless. What is Hollywood or Ballywood saying to this?
After all they did profit from those unfortunate actors that made them Millions in profits.

I am a conservative. I believe in risk and reward. I believe in contracts. I believe people should not squat on property that does not belong to them.
But the risk of the project is over. Millions in dollars of profits have been made.
Cannot somebody who recieved a large portion of the profits provide some amount of financial aid and mentoring to these folks to get them on their feet?
Am I missing something? Is there no room for Charity? Are the powers to be so ruthless and selfish that for one year they can provide shelter for the family? Can they not at least provide for the childs education through college, if the child so desires?
There may be another side to the story, but I would like to hear it.
Those were my thoughts.

It is not about one slumdog, there are more than 4 milliion slum dwellers in Mumabi. So the solution is not in charity but effective town planning.

I agree with Amit, totally.

Perhaps the best thing about this, is the 'Slumdog' stars' mishaps bring world focus on the whole issue.
Still I find it bad that the producers have not shared some of the profits with these children.

So sad...

What a shame.
One would expect the producers to have atleast given the boy a small house!!

We need to reach out to these children, surely. Most importantly the wealthy who profited from their acting work need to pay them scale wage in some fashion that they might be able to rent a home legitimately.
The best solution to slums is more available birth control and a social statement that those who cannot house and feed themselves properly should not add to their burden with pregnancy.

Solution is not in words, you will find best compilation of words in govt of india documents, but in action.Which is nowhere even after 60 year of independence.

Sad reality of life in Mumbai for many. I actually thought at least the lives of these kids would be better, way better, after the movie. So much for hoping.

Is it true is he ( The boy ) been sold to an Arab Family. ?
at 22:36 on May 14th, 2009
No, Chanaka. That is a lie and manipulation by the so called "free media". What they did was called the girl's father to a hotel room (he can't understand English much) and told him that some wealthy arab wants to adopt the child. The poor man thought maybe he can't give good life to her, maybe somebody would provide the girl a better life. Something in similar tune.
Then the tabloid media, just for the sake of creating sensationalisation published a lie that the father trying to sell his daughter. Police verification proved that this is a lie.
Honestly speaking, we can tolerate even LTTE or Al Queda. But not "free media" like this.
Mark my words. Whenever a disaster happens, they will come. Not to do the reporting, but to take the photos of dead, rotten and bloated human bodies and sell them to those "people" who get orgasmic pleasure by watching such images.
