So, the Tamil Tigers were mortals after all

Much was glorified about the military might of the (late) LTTE. Yet how easily they folded under the relentless pressure excreted by the Sri Lankan security forces, provides much food for thought.

In fact they lasted even that long is not due to their might, but thanks to the "human" shield they wisely[sic] chose to maintain.

Their sudden decision to offer an olive branch once it was apparent that there was no way out for the leaders says a lot about their character.

COLOMBO: The dramatic collapse of the Tamil Tigers, accompanied by white flags and surrenders even as some suicide bombers kept exploding themselves, is a sad commentary on the politics of uncompromising mayhem the rebels pursued for so long in Sri Lanka.

Here was a group called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) that set out to form an independent Tamil state by breaking up the north and east of Sri Lanka. They never fought any elections but prided themselves as the sole and authentic representatives of the Tamils.

It appears now that this was not the only contradiction in their personality.

The steady revelations about the final moments of the LTTE leadership speak poorly of the Tigers who declared a sudden love for peace when their own lives were at risk, after contemptuously dismissing all past efforts at peace making.

Once the much feared and revered "Sooryathevan" bid adieu, the LTTE became the (late) LTTE, quite contrary to the reputation they have earned throughout many a "misinformed" circle.

It took only six months of merciless military assault to force the LTTE to beg Western powers to save it from destruction. Tragically, even as the leaders were preparing to give up, the foot soldiers continued to fight and die, carrying out suicide attacks as late as May 17.

The next day, Prabhakaran lay dead and the LTTE was in ruins.

Even after his death, the LTTE's love for fantasy did not abate. It kept claiming that Prabhakaran was alive and well - before sheepishly admitting the truth a week later.

Their awesome reputation notwithstanding, the Tamil Tigers finally proved that they too were mortals.

Like we have seen in so many movies , Dummeel Eelam too is a virtual reality. It is the dream of a lot of people who speak a common language - something like collective amnesia. Eelam exists only in the mind of the eels. So is the courage of the people who are "freedom fighters" of that great nation. Virtual courage.

What else one can expect? Can we make a clap if a virtual hand and real hand comes in contact?

That is what happened in Sri Lanka. The fight between the real and the unreal.

The Sinhalese extremism can not give up on LTTE even if the Tamils could.

That is quite sad to see.

The Sinhalese extremism can not accept peace and proceed with steps to go towards peace. The first logical step would be to re-build the lives of 300,000 Tamil IDPs with good jobs, education, and homes. These people got nothing to go on for. The Sri Lankan extremism is still in the celebration mood having white rice, while the Tamils IDPs are reduced to having at the most one meal a day in these camps.

The Sri Lankan government has model camps to show visiting Ban Ki Moon and others, but even these camps are totally criticized by the UN officials as way below grade. The Sri Lankan government still does not want to let any foreign aids close to the Tamils IDPs as the chance of the world seeing a more comprehensive picture of the war just happened.

The new war is on the displaced Tamil IDPs. Many countries and organizations have stressed the Sri Lankan governement for free press access and aid agencies access to re-build Tamil areas, but the Sri Lankan government has a different plan to build Sinhalese settlements in to the Tamils regions and leave the Tamils IDPs to die of starvation, torture, rape and killings in the concentration camps.

The fate of the post war regions of North and East are also left in the dark filled with human rights violations.

LTTE is gone. So shape up Sri Lanka. You got  nothing more to divert the world on. The real humanitarian issues has to be dealt with. The Tamils has to be given equal rights to live freely in their regions.

The humanitarian issue is the legacy the (late) LTTE left. Tamils with jobs, education, and homes.were made IDP's due to the totalitarianism of the (late) LTTE and the GoSL is left high and dry trying to provide basic amenities for the displaced.

Sri Lanka is shaped up, yet the pertinant question is what the Diasporans, who lavishly emptied their coffers at the behest of the (late) LTTE would do at this juncture.

Rather than blabbering your failed formula of GENOCIDE, RAPE, TORTURE & STARVATION, try to do something productive.

Sooryathevan has gone nova along with the rest of their INVESTMENT MANAGERS. All are now in the form of cosmic dust beyond the Exosphere traveling towards the Oort Cloud.

Only chance of them returning is in form of a comet.

Anyone could come up with a suitable name?
