SOCHI, September 20,  France will buy 10 Russian Soyuz carrier rockets, according to a contract signed by Russia’s Federal Space Agency and the French company Arianespace. Arianespace Director General Jean-Yves Le Gall said on Saturday that the first launch would be made in 2009 from Kourou.

He project is estimated at 300-400 million euros. The official noted that a contract had been signed last year for the purchase of four carrier rockets and that 21 commercial launches had been made since then. Three to four Soyuz-ST launches a year are planned from Kourou beginning 2010 in addition to Ariane launches.

Russia's Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) is negotiating with the European Space Agency and several potential partners for the launch of up to 20 Soyuz-ST carrier rockets from Kourou in French Guiana.

The launch pad for Russian Soyuz-ST rockets is being built at Kourou under the Soyuz-Kourour project in accordance with an inter-governmental agreement between Russia and France signed in November 2003. The total cost of the project is 344 million euros.

SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I suppose this is a more palatable alternative to NASA than, say, getting the Chinese on-board for resupplying the ISS
