Denmark is the pinnacle of civility. One of the most honest people and highest form of democracy. A bestial practice however may undermine the country's international image of decency.
People in Denmark are supposedly one of the most civilized in the Western hemisphere, but for one cruel practice pertaining to coming of age: mass salughter of dolphins.

It is a shame to kill such beautiful creatures

Yes and that from a EU member country that made such a fuzz over Canada's seal hunt, even by the Inuit. I guess if you want to point fingers you should sweep your own doorstep first.

But it don't make the seal right!

Every year in Japan, 20,000+ dolphins are slaughtered, other whale species are killed too, including bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, spotted dolphins, Risso's dolphins, short-finned pilot whales, white-sided dolphins, and false killer whales.

This really is disgusting, however I saw similar bestial pictures from Canedians, proving it is more common than we want and it are not only the Danish people that are to blame!

There really isn't a defense for this scale of slaughter. The Faroe Islands are half way to Iceland. The population can't be eating that many dolphins.

I can't believe in this day & age that something like this is happening in our world. Remember - should a huge quake hit the Faroe Islands - don't go rushing to help. Or if you do - only save the females! Can't see any other way to stop the killings.

Let's slaugt the people who do this, it's not normal what happens here!!!! Who are the animals here????
at 05:35 on March 11th, 2010
Heeey out there .. I live in the Faroe Islands .. AND GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE .. sorry, i love you all buuuuut .. You kill pigs, go hunting in all kind of way ! :o Yea, it look kinda creepy with all the blood .. but you just dont see the blood in the water when you kill your animal ! but it's the same as you do .. don't blame us for killing this .. and it's NOT DOLPHIN WE ARE KILLING AND EATING, it's called Pilot whales .. Do you get it ! It's not Dolphin !!omgeeee, I reat about this all the time on the Internet .. people saying .. ohh, they should be killed too, and blablablalaba .. you people have no idé of our tradition and we don't kill it for fun ! it come here like once or once every two years, and it's good food .. like you people like some else animals very much ! do you get it .. please, .. thanks for listening :)

First let me say - If this is your tradition - it's time to stop...It's absolutely barbaric. I live in America & I can tell you there is nothing like your slautering happening here. I don't care if you are killing dolphins or whales - it's wrong. I believe you do kill for the fun of it. I read where it's your passage into MANHOOD! Wow...What a man. And don't try to tell me that your tiny island even tries to consume all this meat. There are many old traditions that have been done away with....such as burning of witches etc etc. Its time Faroe Island gave up this barbaric one..Keep your songs and traditional clothes - but really - if your smart enought to use a computer - you should be smart enough to see that enough is enough.. Thanks for listening.

Okeey, now it's enough !!! Like I told you before .. YOU PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT US .. and believe me , I've read the article about that manhood .. And that was the funniest thing ever .. Fuck no, there is nothing about that .. we're all like, wtf ?!? .. you don't understand, and probably never will understand this .. We do it our way, and you American do it your way .. and you guys are much crazier than us .. :D as we see it .. and yeah , you are in many many ways :) .. don't come here and act all smart, and tell me if i know how to use a computer, keep my traditional clothes .. fuck the clothes, never had them, and don't care .. Maybe I am just as smart ass you like you don't think I am .. or even smarter .. so don't act all that cool and think you're better than us, just because you don't kill whales .. I think it's just as much torture to kill pigs !! .. and WE DONT KILL THEM .. you DO ! STOP THAT .. this whales is good food and i want to eat it .. and animals are food, that's why we can kill it !

Ok - so we will prayy and wait patiently for the mercury to work. Hope you all suffer..Not really - but still can't understand what make a human act that way. Can you honestly tell me that all that whale meat is eaten?
at 11:18 on March 11th, 2010
Maybe the mercury is getting to you. I am just so amazed that in this day and time we still have barbaric vikings or what ever you call yourselves running around. Please don't come to my country and going to yours will never be on my bucket list. Can you HONESTLY - honestly tell me that you eat all that whale meat?? I find that hard to believe.

NOW we know you. and that is enough to see what kind of people you are. i didnt know , that there are still babaric people living upon the north . and they can slaughter creatures who doesnt have any defence. we have a name for this kind of people, well you know.............
at 18:11 on March 11th, 2010
Get a real life you moron! We don't all kill animals for sport....thats for idiots who don't have REAL lives. Yes we kill to eat (I don't eat meat) but here in Aussie we have laws that protect our animals from inhumane slaughter. There is NOTHING humane about what you are doing! And STOP using the OLD 'Its tradition" line.....cos thats shit! Get into this century you idiot and stand up for yourself.......you know how to say NO and protect your world for the future don't you? As long as cruelty and intolerance is rife in this world your future is not looking great. Its up to YOUNG people to stand up and say STUFF TRADITION we want to respect ALL creatures. Just cos some OLD fella says it's right does not mean it is.......look at what old shits are doing to YOUR world NOW! Also don't say it's ONLY pilot whales..........what do they not have feelings? Do they not feel fear? Do they not cry as they are dying? Do they not give birth and protect their young? You are a typical backward islander whom deserves to be killed in the painful way these creatures endure.......NO WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND IDIOT!
at 10:08 on March 12th, 2010
done talking .. don't talk about stuff you have no idé about ..''what do they not have feelings? Do they not feel fear? Do they not cry as they are dying? Do they not give birth and protect their young?''omg stuuupid ! doesn't all animals do that !! gooosh ..

FI, I am currently writing an article for student publication here in Australia. I would really like to get your point of view on this issue. Would you mind answering a couple of questions via email. Let me know @ nspykerman@gmail.com
Thanks

I am really shocked at the language being used here. FI is probably right. None of us understands what's going on on his or her island and we have no idea what we're talking about. Although I don't understand the killing of pilot whales neither FI does have a point that we too kill animals by eating them, and fish too. When Cindy B says: "As long as cruelty and intolerance is rife in this world your future is not looking great" she's absolutely right. Unfortunately her own mail, as well as that of many others I see here, proofs that those of you who want to protect these poor animals from being slaughtered are extremely intolerant towards those who slaughter them. This will only cause them to fortify their trenches and arm themselves against your hatred. The only way for people to change is if they understand why change is necessary. As long as they are convinced that what they do is right or at least not wrong, then why would they change. Rather than rage against FI, try to give some real good arguments which might cause him to think about what he's doing. The fact that the animals suffer is clearly not enough, and I think rightly so. We also make our animals (pigs, cows, chicken) suffer, maybe not when we kill them (and who am I to know, I've never watched when they were being killed!), but we sure cause suffering when we farm them in small cages. So I challenge each of you to find some more compelling arguments for FI to think about. I myself will start with the first one: For the world to maintain its balance ALL life is important and the greater the biodiversity the healthier the planet is. So if it is true that this species is nearly extint than it may be time to stop killing it in order to protect the world's bidiversity. FI, you may want to think of a way to farm it instead, if that's at all possible, if you like to keep eating this meat. I would like to hear what you think about this idea FI. Erika.
