Body found in public landfill may mean tragic end for missing 7 year old Florida girl, Somer Thompson
ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) — Detectives searching for a missing 7-year-old north Florida girl say they have found the body of a young girl in a Georgia landfill.Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said the body found Wednesday had not been identified but the parents of Somer Thompson have been notified.
Somer vanished on her mile-long walk home from school Monday in Orange Park, near Jacksonville.
She was squabbling with another child, and her sister told her to stop. The girl got upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn't seen again.
Orange Park is a suburb of Jacksonville just south of Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The area where the girl disappeared is a heavily populated residential area.

Yes, a horrible ending. Do not know why such things have to happen at all. :( I guess its not safe to let a child walk home from school anymore. :(

Florida has major problems in this regard! My heart broke this morning when I heard the little girl's mom pleading for the return of her daughter. I can't say here what I would like to do to the MF that did this . . . . This is happening all too often and all too frequently.

Yes, Rory, it is all too frequent and just tragic, and the utter selfishness of anyone who would do such a thing to someone's child boggles the mind....

Thank you, Amy.
Yes, it is happening all too often, and it seems you just cannot let children out of your sight anymore. Very sad, and should make everyone angry, too. The sex offenders registry did not prevent this tragedy, nor the 9 year old girl found dead last night in Missouri.
