A new ad from Sony has sparked anger from the government of Nigeria, which declared the ad offensive over the allusion to email scams involving Nigerian nationals. The ad advertises Sony's PlayStation 3, and has one of the actors say, "You can't believe everything on the Internet. Otherwise, I'd be a Nigerian millionaire by now." The government of Nigeria came to view this particular line as offensive and now demands an apology from the Sony Corporation. Nigerian government also wants the ad removed from YouTube and social networks.
The Federal Government yesterday asked the Sony Corporation to withdraw with immediate effect and tender an unreserved apology for posting an advertisement on the internet portraying Nigeria as a home of fraud where its citizens hardly do genuine business.
The Minister of Information and Communication, Prof Dora Akunyili said contrary to the insinuations being made, “Nigeria remains a major investment destination and a country where most businesses thrive in trust, good faith, competence and integrity.
“The apology must be given the same measure of publicity by Sony Corporation in all channels where the unfortunate adverts were aired.

You just cannot insult Nigeria as you wish. Some respect for the people who share the name ‘Nigeria’ as an identity…
