The sound of fury in Bangkok!

“full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.  Shakespeare.

The Bangkok People's Alliance for Democracy have been demonstrating now for about six weeks.  The government has had its censure debate in Parliament.  The Prime Minister has been called to account for his actions and answer his critics.  Everyone now knows exactly what his many weaknesses are.

And he keeps going!

A bit like Gordon Brown in the UK!

So have the PAD been successful in their demonstrating?

From the size of (or rather lack of) the crowds today (Sunday), it looks like: NO.

Looked at from inside the gates of Government House today, the answer probably is:  “We will soon be going back to our proper job of chasing the criminals!”

Looked at from the eyes of Bangkok people generally, the answer probably is: “Are they still there; I thought they had already packed up?”

When I was a young student and joined the Communist Party of Great Britain (OK! I soon learnt it was a waste of time but you have to start somewhere!), a comrade told me that the first tactic of organizing was to ensure that the new recruits always had something to do, ready for the next tactic, the next big pressure point.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This group of the middle-class Bangkok intelligentsia seems to be lacking in any well thought out and robustly tested strategy.  Once they got past the police barriers and  reached the gates of Government House, they seemed to lose their purpose.

So I don’t hold out much prospect of their gaining any momentum now.

They have lost direction and fallen asleep!
