South Carolina "First in the South" GOP Debate Today
Politisite and Iron Mill News Service will be covering the, “First in the South” GOP presidential debate live from Greenville, South Carolina. Much has changed from four years ago, when we covered the event for NowPublic by live blogging the debate as it unfolded. At that time, some of the print media looked at us crossed eyed and asked us to repeat several times what outlet we were from. Others thought that an Internet writer was the stupidest thing they ever heard and said they would survive long after, “bloggers” were gone.
The joke was a bit on them as this writer was a former political operative and had been writing online since 1998 before anyone was called a, “blogger”. Politisite.com was a concept called a “political website” and Politisite is really a transliteration of a french word, “politiste” that roughly translates to the English as Political Scientist. Others have tried to correct us and say that, “Politiste” means “Sexy Cop” in Romania. O.K. but there are no sexy cops in our office. Sorry Guys, just a bunch of Political Science types
Back in the nighties, I was just another Spin doctor who took to the internet as an extension of media relations with our constituents in the Republican Party.
Some say I was a “rouge” Political Operative who was willing to give away all of the Political Strategists secrets. Let me re-frame that. I use my background in Politics as a means of keeping the political parties honest and informing the public of the political process. Neither side seems to like me. The same feeling holds true with either political party, Public Relations firms and Journalists.
So here’s looking forward to seeing my old friends the spinners, spinning, the spun and watching the Journalists trying to get a simple question answered with a mere yes or no answer… good luck! After every tough question by a journalist, a good spin master will always say, “that’s an excellent question, but what is really important is” and then go off on his three major talking points. The Political Dance ensues and both sides walk off the dance floor, called the “Spin Room” feeling they have been molested in some way by the other party.
Look for our multimedia posts beginning at 5:00 pm through the last update in the Spin-Room at around 11:00 p.m.

Columbia, SC – May 4, 2011 – South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Karen Floyd announced that the following five candidates have qualified for and will be participating in tomorrow night’s First-in-the-South Republican Presidential Debate. Those candidates, in alphabetical order, are:

“The Upstate of South Carolina has always played such a significant role in deciding the Republican nomination, and for that reason it is fitting that we begin our national debate about the future of this nation right in the heart of the Upstate,” Floyd said. “We give great credit to all of these candidates for being willing to stand before a national audience and lay out their plans and ideas for the future of this country.
