+++POSTED YESTERDAY+++
CLEVELAND [WMAT News] – Police Chief Michael McGrath confirmed in a Tuesday news conference that, 4 more bodies have been recovered from the home of Anthony Sowell. A total of 10 bodies have now been recovered from the residence.
“During the course of our investigation, throughout the day, we have discovered approximately four more bodies in the backyard, and a skull in a bucket in the basement”, said Police Chief Michael McGrath.
McGrath also said that the suspect, Anthony Sowell is being charged with five counts of aggravated murder, for the five victims that the County Coroner confirms have been strangled. He is also being charged with rape, kidnapping, and felonious assault.
Also, police and the city Building and Housing Department searched all abandoned structures within a quarter-mile radius from the residence. No bodies were found. Wednesday, police will extend that search radius another quarter-mile.
“I can imagine how the families feel who are reporting a missing person, and the anxiety that they are going through. We want to assure them, as soon as we know something they will be the first to know”, said Mayor Frank Jackson.
Investigators will be working throughout the night, using excavators and other heavy machinery, to dig for any more possible victims. Work lights and a tent have been set up in the backyard of the residence.
Sowell was released from prison in 2005, after serving 15 years for rape. He is scheduled to appear before a judge for his arraignment on Wednesday.
