Specter v. Bachmann

Much is being made of the clash between Senator Arlen Specter and Representative Michele Bachmann. Many people are criticizing Specter for being a brute against "a lady". I don't really see it that way.

Specter is an old school politician. He's used to debates of substance. Bachmann is one of the darlings of the Teabagger movement. Now, I've not been shy about sharing my feelings regarding these Teabag people and their anti-intellectual agenda. So, when you are asked a serious question about what you stand for, and you say things like "prosperity" and "freedom"...you're not making a serious point. When you run the clock with babble and empty filibustering, it's hard for anyone to debate that. It's like asking someone what color the sky is, and their answer is "I like skies for their air, and color doesn't matter!" That's not a debate.

So Specter got frustrated. It's understandable-- Bachmann can be an infuriating force, the same way that Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck can get to people. They can't stand on an intellectual point, so they use words that undereducated and uneducated people can relate to: "values", "freedom", "American", "socialist", "Death Panels". Basically, don't listen to all those big, college-y, elitist, "liberal" words. So Specter lost his temper a bit. And, to quote Admiral Ackbar..."It's a TRAP!!"

Now, Arlen Specter looks like a bad man yelling at the nice lady with the Stepford Wive's smile. That can be frustrating to anyone that's more interested in a serious poiltical conversation, and not just trying to get supporters and votes. I feel bad for him. He's a smart guy, and he was caught off guard by this "new" form of politician that rely on inaccurate soundbites and cultism. But, at the same time, he needs to be more aware of these things so it doesn't happen again. Let  her run her mouth and continue to say stupid things. That's the way to fight the Teabaggers-- STAY SMART and STAY ON MESSAGE. Let them pontificate all they'd like. The more they are exposed, the worse off they will be.
