It may not look like spring has sprung everywhere, with some places such as Los Angeles experiencing flooding, but on Sunday March 20 2011 at 7:21 pm ET the vernal equinox took place and spring began.

This means that Monday March 21 2011 is officially the first full day of spring, and for those in the southern hemisphere, it is officially the first full day of fall.

An equinox occurs in both March and September, and many people gather for celebrations at places like Stonehenge to celebrate them.
