Turning a new page in Sri Lankan history, entering in to space era for the first time,Sri Lanka's first communication satelliteSupreme SAT-I will take to orbit on November 22 ,2012 around 9:30 p.m. local time from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China and it will be positioned over Sri Lanka after a seven minutes.Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's youngest son Rohitha Rajapaksa is the master minder of this project.Rohitha Rajapaksa has obtained his aerospace engineering master degree in UK.

R. M. Manivannan, Chairman of SupremeSAT said the launch will take place around 9:30 p.m. Sri Lankan time and the satellite will be positioned above the country in the Geo-Stationary orbit at 87.5 degrees East in just seven minutes.

The satellite will be operational for commercial purposes in the region by early June 2013.

A milestone in Sri Lankan history, entering in to space era for the first time, the Sri Lankan national flag would be displayed in orbit with the launch of the first satellite Supreme SAT-I.

Sri Lanka will be the 45th country in the world to own a communication satellite and the third in South Asia. India and Pakistan have their own satellites.

SupremeSAT (Pvt) Ltd. is the first Sri Lankan satellite operator with the partnership of China's state owned satellite manufacturing institution China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC).

SupremeSAT is planned to invest over US$ 320 million, and planning to launch Sri Lanka's first ever communications satellite. It will be called SupremeSAT-III. The SupremeSAT-III will be providing all types of telecommunications services to Sri Lanka and hope to launch on year 2015.
