Sri Lankan government last week launched the National Human Resources and Employment Policy (NHREP), a policy document that aims to develop human resources (HR) and to assure equal opportunity employment for all its citizens including the unemployment university graduates in the country.

The main objective of the Policy is to transform Sri Lanka into “The Wonder of Asia” and to develop the country’s human resources while making Sri Lanka the knowledge hub of Asia.

The document, with funding and technical assistance from the International Labour Organization, addressed the key areas of school education, higher education, vocational training, employment, productivity and the public sector, with the aim of developing the country’s human resources.

The policy “would be a guide to the government in building [up] the country as a hub for human resources,” said Senior Minister for Human Resources DEW Gunasekera, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.[/q]
