Sri Lanka: LTTE reiterates need for permanent and real ceasefire
The current 2 day "ceasefire" has continued to produce Tamil civilian casulties. The Sri Lankan Army shelling has been reduced, however did strike the civilians targets to kill 23 civilians within 12 hour period, Wanni sources added.
LTTE has released a statement, on Monday April 13, 2009,to point out the urgent need to having international community facilitation in a ceasefire and the need for a permanant ceasefire to derive a political solution to the current civil war.
"The ceasefire would be meaningful and constructive with the facilitation of the International Community," the Tiger statement pointed out.
A ceasefire should not be dictated solely on the premises of the Sri Lankan military objectives. On the contrary, it should be based on humanitarian and political objectives, the LTTE said.
The civilian casulties were less than "normal" day in the "safety zone" due to the reduced shelling of the Sinhalese New Year.
Tamils civilians were strangled in the "safety zones" for their New Year with no food, no medicines and no shelter due to floods in the tents.
SLA attacks kill 23 Tamil civilians within 12 hours [TamilNet, Monday, 13 April 2009, 10:43 GMT]
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) fired shells and gunfire killed at least 23 civilians within the last 12 hours from 8:30 p.m. Sunday to 8:00 a.m. Monday, according to TamilNet correspondent reporting from the safety zone in Vanni. Most of the killings, numbering between 15 - 20, occurred in the early hours of Monday when SLA stepped up a fresh ground push to advance into the safety zone. The SLA is trying to advance during the night aiming for bifurcating and capturing northern or southern part of the so-called safety zone contradicting the announcement by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa that he had instructed his ground forces to "restrict their operations during the New Year to those of a defensive nature."
LTTE reiterates need for permanent ceasefire [TamilNet, Monday, 13 April 2009, 17:52 GMT]
The Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) Political Division, in a statement issued in Tamil on Monday called the Sri Lankan announcement of restricting military operations for two days as an eyewash to create an impression of engagement on false premises. Condemning the move as a "political drama" aimed at "deceiving the International Community and the Tamil people", the LTTE said the Sri Lanka Army was continuing indiscriminate shelling and gunfire on civilians. The LTTE statement categorically stated that the Tigers were calling for a politically and militarily meaningful ceasefire with humanitarian considerations.

After said that what kind of strong propaganda network LTTE has, It is too obvious that the deliberately kill their own people and use images of those dead bodies to attract international support and create outcry so that the terrorist leader Prabhakaran can escape.

Thanks for your insight Mr. Israeli.agent.
I know by you standards, Sri Lankan Government can say "ceasefire" and still shell Tamils civilians, however you would never talk for the actual problem and realistic solutions.
There must be something that the Tamils in Sri Lanka want to say after 3 months of ordeal, and 60 years of oppression, right? Why not let them talk to independent media ? Why not provide an independently held referendum to see what the Tamils in Sri Lanka want to say? If what you all saying are true about LTTE, then in an independently held referendum, Tamils can fearlessly, to the Sri Lankan Army or to the LTTE, say what they really want, right?
Why a long term solution to the problem can not be envisioned by the Sinhalese community for the Tamils in Sri Lanka ? The main reason I ask this towards the Sinhalese community is that they have the monopoly power to decide who become government in Sri Lanka, hence if they want they can easily make peace a reality in Sri Lanka.

What you think you know is not what you really know Ms. Tamiya . It is just an illusion of a brainwashed mind. The direction of those shells coming is from the place where LTTE is hiding. Not from the SLA side.
About Sri Lankan Tamils saying something - they won’t because “leedar" Bhiraphaharan have ordered his butchers to weld the civilian hostages’ mouth shut. Their mouth open only if they convinced that the master terrorist has become cosmic dust. Not before that because the amount of terror this vermin drilled into the poor civilian's mind is that much.
As long as LTTE exists, there can't be any independent nothing. In the background, through the barbaric acts they have broken the Sri Lankan Tamil's mind to that extends. Only after zero LTTE, those memories get erased from their mind.
Sinhalese has a majority in Sri Lankan Government because they are the major ethnicity in Sri Lanka. But the government is not a Sinhala Government, but Sri Lankan Government consists of Muslims, Tamils, Malays and Sinhalese.
Yes the Government can make peace, only after piece piece of LTTE.
