Sri Lanka is President Obama's first "problem from hell" said Inner City Press (ICP) today.

"A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide" is a well acclaimed book on authored by Samantha Power, a senior director of US's National Security Council. ICP questioned why the world has not yet heard from Samantha Power regarding what is happening in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka, ‘Obama’s first problem from hell,’ ICP says

Posted on April 15th, 2009 | Sri Lanka News

Inner City Press journalists, in a web discussion, say that the imminent “blood bath” of Tamil civilians in the “safe zone” in Mullaiththeevu coast as the first “problem from hell” for Obama administration, and ask why the world has not heard yet any voice on Sri Lanka from Samantha Power, author of a well acclaimed book on genocide and the senior director of Multi-lateral Affairs at the U.S’s National Security Council (NSC) where she will have a direct hand in formulating U.S. policy on the United Nations, G-8, and other global forums.

Mathew Lee refers to the placards held by Tamil protesters in front of the US’s UN mission in New York of the impending genocide, and speculates that UN officials are unlikely to have a security council meeting even if Sri Lanka kills more than 10,000 civilians in the “blood bath” which is likely to occur soon.

“In “A Problem From Hell” Power describes how government is not well structured to respond effectively to humanitarian crises. Part of the problem, she shows, is that individuals in government sometimes react to these crises in politically expedient ways that do not do much to address or reverse ongoing genocide or mass atrocity. This is less a critique of specific individuals than it is a condemnation of American foreign policy making more generally.

“Now that she is embedded in the U.S. foreign policy making apparatus the big question on my mind is whether or not she falls victim to the very processes she criticizes so ably in her book,” says Mark Goldberg, the interviewer in his website.

The $2b loan the Sri Lanka Goverment is asking is to replenish the $1.6b spent on war and to support the internment camps, the ICP says referring to open statements by Sri Lanka officials, and questions if US is likely to use its effective veto power to stop the loan. The journalists point to a similar threat used by the US to force Indonesia to organize the independence vote for East Timor.

It should be noted that Sri Lanka is ranked among the top 8 countries of Red Alert of genocide and mass atrocites.

UNITED NATIONS - Genocide and other mass atrocities are underway or risk breaking out in at least 33 countries, says a new comprehensive watch list slated for release Tuesday - the 60th anniversary of the United Nations prevention of genocide convention.

"Red alert" countries include Afghanistan and Iraq alongside commonly known regions currently experiencing genocidal conflict such as Sudan's Darfur and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These and Myanmar, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka all made the list's top eight because they appear in each of the five "expert" indexes.

Where did you get the facts lady, from the terrorist thugs living in Canada, Norway, US who are involved in drugs, murder, torturing and extortion?

Government declared the safety zone. Liberation Tamil Tigers of Eelam (LTTE) terrorists are inside the safety zone now and are firing at the government forces. LTTE terrorists are holding the Tamils in the safety zone as a human shield.  To read the facts, read http://defence.lk/ and you decide.

Since we are on the subject of Books,

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The book "Dying To Kill: The Allure of Suicide Terror (Hardcover)" says:

"Three Tamil women were raped by perpetrators who spoke Sinhalese. The attacks were not reported, other than to the int'l aid
organization, and yet they were not long after approached by
representatives of the LTTE and recruited as ultimately 'Black
Tigresses.' to save the honor of their family after their 'rape'. The
same int'l org reported that the original 'Sinhalese' rapists were
really Tamils, (and that this was a 'set up.')

Two of the three women were executed after arranging to speak with the author of the book."

How many LTTE you estimate that are left?

There are closer to 200,000 Tamils civilians in the "safety zone".

Would not the Tamils civilians be able take out the LTTE ? remeber only few hundreds of LTTE and close to 200,000 Tamils civilians here. If these Tamils civilians  are scared of LTTE, as you claim, the Tamils civilians would have ployed with the Sri Lankan Army to root out the LTTE, right?

There is not enough food. No medicines. The Sri Lankan government is not planning to send food or medicine in the foreseeable future. There was flooding in the zone and disease outbreak. Tamils civilians are dying due to starvation.

And the Sri Lankan Army is right there at the end of the "safety zone".

Even in these worst conditions, these Tamils civilians are scared to come into the Sri Lankan Army controlled area. Why?

Just one answer might be the strip-and-walk naked plot carried out by the Sri Lankan Army at the existing checkpoints on the dithery Tamils civilians coming out. Do you see that encouraging more come running to the Sri Lankan Army controlled area?

These Tamils civilians know since they have resided close to the once power house of LTTE, the Sri Lankan Army will only see them as LTTE, and the tortures & killings follow that assumption have been only repeated over million times in Sri Lanka.

it's very shameful thing lying in public!

FBI, CIA, RAW and MI6 like intelligence agencies well aware of the LTTE atrocities as well as their political leaders, how LTTE behave, who are behind them, who killed president Ranasinghe Premadasa, who killed Indian Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, but it’s very pathetic world leaders and world community acting in a different way for Sri Lankan government

Don’t you think so? They are not babies

So why are you worried?

Truth prevails, right?

Nobody could lie forever, the truth will come out sooner or later. Sometimes too late for any good.

Prabu, dont get angry? tamil got their freedom now... lets sri lanakan army screen the camps. aftere that civilians will go to their villagers. just like EAST. then after 30 years those tamils will live peacefuly. As u scream... have u send a single item for these IDP's? but all sri lanakan collect aids and take them to those IDPs. These tamils are our brothers and sisters. We will treat them that way.
