In recent times the civil society of Sri Lanka is becoming increasingly uncomfortable because of the restriction imposed on them because of the State Emergency and are questioning whether it is really necessary or not.
According to Keheliya Rambukwella , Sri Lanka's defence spolkesman "there are still remnants of LTTE terrorists at large in the country" even 5 months after the complete defeate of the guerillas.
Close to five months after the military defeat of the LTTE, Sri Lankan Parliament on Thursday extended the state of Emergency in the country by another month.
The motion to extend the Emergency was adopted by Parliament with a majority of 70 votes. While 82 parliamentarians voted for the motion, 12 voted against. The main opposition United National Party abstained while members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) were not present in House.
In the mean time, Sri Lankan army is celebrating their 60th anniversary on tomorrow (10 - October - 2009).
Sri Lanka Army will receive a further boost for its image and join the annals of Sri Lanka's military chronicles when it issues a new Rs. 1000 worth commemorative Coin plus a new First day Stamp cover to coincide with ongoing Army 60th Anniversary celebratory events.

The UNP was the main cause of the escalation of LTTE terrorism. These guys have no rope to hang on to. TNA voting against? This proves that there are remnants of LTTE in the areas and that they are worried about it or they are LTTE sympathizers themselves.

Yes. From the remnants of the LTTE, if they back the Govt.
Just check how many of these TNA guys went to Tamil Nadu and met people such as Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi, Vaiko etc. for the LTTE cause, guised as Tamil Cause. :-)
