SRI LANKAN OWNED BUSINESS CHAIN OUTLETS ATTACKED
SRI LANKA OWNED BUSINESS CHAIN OUTLETS ATTACKED BY SUSPECTED TAMIL TIGER SUPPORTERS IN LONDON
Suspected Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) supporters in London attacked five outlets of a Sri Lankan owned fast food chain called “Sam’s Chicken”
The owner of the chain Sam Chandrasinha said five of the outlets have been damaged. He said the criminals have caused a damage of about £17,000 to the five outlets.
He said they came in a car, stop the vehicle with running engine, take out bricks from the car and smashed windows and signs of the retail shops. “They are cowards. They do not come for a face to face fight. As soon as they smash the glass they run in the waiting car,” he said. The attacks happened at Sam’s Chicken outlets at Cricklewood, Kingsbury, Willesden, Sudbury Hill and Wembley Hill all suburbs of London.
When requested the Scotland Yard was able to tell us about only one incident and issued the following statement : “We can confirm that we are investigating an allegation of criminal damage at Sam's Chicken on Kingsbury High Road. The incident is alleged to have occurred at approx 01:00hrs on 20/5/09. The Violent Crime Unit based at Kilburn will be investigating the matter. There have been no arrests. No persons were injured. The venue was closed at the time of the alleged incident Investigations are ongoing.”
Sam Chandrasinghe, owner of fast-food chain Sam's Chicken, says his staff have been threatened and bricks hurled at four of his 30 takeaways in the capital due to his Sinhalese background.
The 62-year-old from Hendon has advised staff to close their shops early amid fears they will be attacked on the way home. Sri Lanka's Sinhalese government declared victory in their 26-year war with the Tamils in Sri Lanka on Monday.
Mr Chandrasinghe, a father of two who has lived in Britain since 1967, told the Standard: “We are the only Sinhaleseowned business on the high street so the Tamils are targeting us.
“They come in and shout at my staff, Are you Tamil or Sinhalese?' We are all living in fear and I have had to close my shops early because they come late at night and smash the windows.”
Police are investigating the attacks as possible “faith hate crimes”. The Sinhalese are mainly Buddhist while the Tamils are largely Hindu. Mr Chandrasinghe said the violence began about a month ago. “One gang of four young men came into a branch in Kingsbury and said, We will burn your restaurant down, you are supporting the Sri Lankan government,'” he said.
After the death of LTTE terrorist leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, a spate of violence against Sri Lannkan Sinhala businessmen and institutions around the world is observed.
Suspected LTTE terrorist supporters have attacked and caused damage to the London Buddhist Vihara, Toronto Buddhist Vihara, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oslo, the Sri Lankan Mission in the Hague to name a few. It was only the other day a home invasion attack by by Tamil youth, obviously supporters of the terrorist LTTE group in Australia left a young Sinhalese man injured and the second is still fighting to keep his eyesight after acid was thrown on his face.
The latest in this cowardly violence is the attack on Five Sam's chicken outlets in London. All attacks occurred in the dead of the night. Videos of these attacks have been recovered and Scotland Yard is investigating. On checking out the video, the readers will observe how these attackers run in a cowardly manner after their so called mission is accomplished or better still, partly accomplished.
Sam Chandrassinghe, the owner of Sam's chicken is a philanthopist, who has helped Sri Lankans in the UK, irrespective of their race and religion.
Recently, he donated 10,000 British Pounds Sterling to the 'Api Wenuwen Api" housing project for the servicemen and pledged another 20,000 British Pounds Sterling to this fund when the scheme is inaugurated. This may well be the sour point for the terrorist supporters.
I met Chandrasinghe, a classmate of mine, in Sri Lanka in late March this year and during our conversation he told me that he had received numerous threats from Tamil terrorist supporters in London, talking about his donations and threatening him with damage to his establishments and also bodily harm. He told me that he had made complaints to the London Police regarding these threats.
Scotland Yard, one of the most prestigious agencies in the world, should be able to bring these culprits to book soon. However, with the present sentiments of David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary and the British Government as a whole, which ironically has not condemned attacks of this nature, I can not gauge how speedy the Scotland Yard action will be.
If this type of violence is not nipped in the bud, there will be many in the cards of the Tamil Terrorist Supporters all over the world.
At least now, we are getting a taste of what these terrorist supporters are capable of.

I think you will find these are moderate Tamil youths rather than LTTE supporters who are angered by the SL governments genoicde against the Tamils. When 1000s of people have died and 300,000 are kept in concentration camps and they find the sinhalese are celebrating there will always be a backlash!
Rather than high light a few incidents here you should be showing the plight of the poor civillian caught up in the camps where childres are being abducted by the army and women are being raped and killed!

So vandalism and blatant disregard for someone else's property is completely alright if it means that a few diluded, ignorant and misguided youth "just wanted to blow off some steam"?

Jayashree!
Sam is a wonderful person, who has helped many Sri Lankans to establish and progress life in the UK. He has provided employment to so many students enabling them to finish their studies and move on in life. Even todate he serves our community well employing Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese in his ventures. Very few people fall in to this category. Only those sick in their minds will ever think of attacking him.
30 years back he offered me my first part-time job in the UK. I owe much of what I am today to him and his kindness. There would be thousands like me who have benefited from his philanthropy and went on to make successes of their lives yet never getting around to saying thank you; for he is too modest to stop and receive such compliment.
Those who engaged in attacking his shops may even have a distant cousin who have received help from Sam. But what can we expect from these scum who had free education in Sri Lanka and yet clamor to destruct our beloved nation?
Knowing Sam - he's a fighter. He will take these cowards on any street should they wish to challenge to single battle. A true son of the lion clan. Should these misguided terrorists challenge in a mob.. we are ready to protect Sam. The lions are awake.

You make some groundless complaints against David Miliband, the British government and Scotland Yard! Hardly the best way to gain support from the British public!
at 03:05 on May 22nd, 2009
Gerry
However, the facts are stubborn. David Miliband is a disgruntled man where the Sri Lankan situation is concerned.
The British Government had done nothing to stop the acts of hooliganism in London. Just look at its stance on the present Sri Lankan situation.
A reliable report from London is that the Police, the Scotland Yard in this case has not even collected the tapes for a review.
If I am wrong, I stand to be corrected.

I truly agree with you DeSilva. These might be a group of young tamil youths showing their displeasure about the situation in Sri Lanka. I sure feel sorry for Mr.Sam.
Mr. Cabraal, slogans such as "Lion is awake" which might provoke sinhala chauvanism can be avoided specially at a time like this.
Though defeating the LTTE can be a cause for rejoicing, we should seriously think about the fate of the innocent tamils, make sure they get equal rights and opportunities.
I think every single citizen of this country should start working towards a peacful tomorrow. We can start by helping and doing as much as possible for the innocent northern civilians.
Mr. President, should make a PUBLIC APPEAL to all citizens of this country to join hands and make sure the injured/homeless and starving innocent civilians of war are taken care of by means of providing MEDICINE, SHELTERS, FOOD and above all LOVING KINDNESS.
Enough of suffering!

Jegath, are you a Srilankan ?

I wish Mr. President would let the international AID workers to have access to war torn areas. Then the truth would be highlighted.
We have trusted the BBC, CNN media information for decades ...
And I don't know how we were (Sri Lanka) made to beleive that they were sharing false information regarding the War situation and called pro LTTE.
After all we have relied and are still relying on these countries for many things such as AIDS/LOANS etc.
Is this the gratitude we show them for sharing the truth on the sri lankan war issues.

Always curious why there needs to be apologies for reckless violence regardless of the circumstances. It is so much easier to give permission for some one to express their need to be violent to protest their dissatisfaction about their country of origin. I say humbug..arrest and deport if they dont follow the rule of law. If they are citizens then put them on trial. No excuses.

Sam's chicken is the best chicken shop in UK!!! So tasty and so cheap.. Too bad I gave up chicken :(
Whoever did, that was not on.. No need to take out the anger towards Sri lankan government on local businesses.

LTTe terrorists have been a lot where gratitude was never in their vocabulary, minds or hearts. Anybody who got in their way, was punished, often than not with death.
What more can you expect from there barbarians?
The video reminded me of a popular nursery rhyme
Three Blind Mice Three Blind Mice
See how they run, see how they run....................................
Literally, see how they run. Terror tactics?

These Tamil Tigers are bringing the war in Sri Lanka over to the UK, Canada and Australia by carrying out violent attacks. When will they ever learn to use peace rather than violence? What next? Will they start carrying out suicide bombings around London?
at 05:35 on May 23rd, 2009
If the foreign governments are pampering these terrorists, then they have to suffer the consequences.

What about human rights of these Sri Lankans ? where is milliband ?
It is sad that the Current western states (<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />uk,us,Norway,Sweden,france,etc) justify terrorism!
First they massacred thousands of Iraqis, Afghans and violated their human rights. This promoted anger and hatred among Muslims worldwide towards West. This is why many muslims justify anti-west Islamic terrorism!
[Lets not recall the crimes West had committed before]
Second, these states supported and continue supporting LTTE terrorism (now the vandalism against democracy). I think they are digging their own grave.
Sri Lanka had clearly identified the difference between the terrorists and civilians. That’s the reason for the victory.
Western states had failed in this front – they mixup terrorists and civilians – any where and every where – this is guaranteed; the reason may be that they don’t know the ground realities, they just look from above > in military terms ‘bombing’, is not the solution. Win the hearts of the people. Treat them equal.
This is why Sri Lanka won and terrorism was defeated.
West should learn a lesson – Have “Straight” policies against terrorism

Prasa,
Don't worry about Miliband. His days are numbered. He will be out at the next British cabinet reshuffle. He will be new Minister of Terrorist and Bungling Affairs.

.US, UK, humanitarian aid agencies all are supposedly "terrorists" in your world.

as a singhalese i think we were wrong when we killed lots of tamils in 1983 and for what happend to then this is nothing.
i vitness 1983 riots so when things like this happens to our people i feel what goes around comes around.
but i heard this man sam is not a nice guy so its good for him..
at 18:33 on May 25th, 2009
gihan,
Your father has fed you with wrong information. So, ask him again.
Also, it is Sinhala and not singhala. If you don't drop the 'g', it may sound as if some non Sinhalese is writing.
i feel what goes around comes around.
True. See what happened to Prabhakaran, his goons and family?
Take care

Hi Lalith,
thanks for correcting my spellings, But i have to say i was a bit offended by calling me a non sinhalese(beacause of the "G" he he :)
tell you the trueth i am a good singhalese, budhist and i am proud to say i went to the same school as our great leader mahinda rajapaksha,(i am bit upset with him as he dint give the land he promised to the school on the old boys get to gether.. he.. he.. just kidding)
any way coming back to serious talk what i said about killing tamil people is what i vitness from my own eyes.
coming on that day from ratmalana to school with out knowing any thing what was going on principal told us school is shut and who ever has there own way can go home and others could be arrange transport, like big shots me and some of my friends thought we will walk home eating kadachoru..
and what me and my friends vitness on the road was very disturbing.
but i have to say there are tamils also very uneducated doing the same thing like breaking sam chiken etc..but there were lot of uneducated sinhalese than this when that happend and it made me so shame of our selfs.
my own cousin brother is in the army and i was so happy when this war has finish but i have to say my heart goes for the innocent tamil and sinhalese people who gets torcherd and bullied because this idiot prbakaran and mahindas, premadasa and other old president we had its all a big money game wich people dont understand.
thanks to our parents we were broght up in a way that they were very closed teaching how bad killing other people and taking other peoples money so we studied and got jobs that we will not have to hurt other people but not every body is lucky.
they dont get that love they need to get from parents, family and they go for the easy way of making money just like prbakaran, mahinda, and all the other political leaders and all the sinhalese and tamil people who killed tamil, sinhalese people and destroy there businesses.
from my point of view this is a foot ball game just like chelsea and arsenal wich they play and promote it in a such a way stupid people put money on and fight on the blogs like this and websites like this make money ..he..he
so i rest my case..will not come to this blog again..see ya
cheers lalith
