Sri lankan armed forces personnel  manning the IDP Centre in Vavuniya mistakenly shot at the IDP Centre where large numbers of Tamil civilians were coming in loads to the government controlled territory.  Unfortunately, a gun ho Sri lankan soldier suspecting a female Tamil as a Tamil Tiger freedom fighter mistakenly shot at the incoming civilians killing 8 Tamil men and children.  His shooting created a chain event where one of the female soldier's grenade exploded causing multiple casualties.  In addition, when one of the wounded soldier tried to flee he also accidentally fled in to the ammunition storage where his grenade fell and caused great explosion.  After wards, Sri lankan defense ministry tried in vain to quell the rumors by blaming the explosion on the Tamil Tiger freedom fighters.
