President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa officially declared the Sri Lankan Victory, liberate the nation from clutches of terrorism has been successfully accomplished and the nation is now free from terror. President His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed the nation from the parliament on Tuesday,May 19th 2009 at 9.50 AM.

LTTE wiped out from Lankan soil

Bringing the 30 year cruel war to an end, the troops militarily defeated the LTTE with all its leaders being killed this morning. The news of the defeat of the LTTE, with its’ three top leaders being shot dead, while fleeing in a vehicle this morning, brought a sigh of relief to the entire nation. Early today, the masses were jubilant when the first news broke that the body of Charles Anthony, son of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran was discovered. An enthusiastic population celebrated lighting crackers at regular intervals.

Towards the afternoon, the most important news of the century broke when the military announced the killing of three top LTTE leaders and a host of others bringing an end to the cruel war that claimed over 100,000 lives in three decades. Thus the curtain fell on separatism of the country which haunted the entire nation from 1975 since the criminal and notorious demand for a separate state called by the infamous Vadukkodai resolution.

Now there are no LTTE leaders and no terror outfit called the LTTE. The troops have completed the most impossible of the impossible missions in the Sri Lankan history. Those who lived by the gun had perished by the gun. There is no gun toting sole representative of Tamils in this country anymore. Tamils are representatives of Tamils.

The future of Tamils will never record names of terrorists’ leaders like Prabhakaran, Charles Anthony, Soosai, Nadesan, Pottu Amman, Elango, Ramesh or anybody for that matter. Tamil terrorism stand buried from today and the Tamil people are freed from the grip of terrorism. The nation of Sri Lanka continue to have its’ legitimate armed forces to protect the people.

The BBC's Charles Haviland, in Colombo

There is jubilation in the streets as crowds cheer, light firecrackers and wave the national flag to greet the announcement from the army chief, Gen Sarath Fonseka, that "all military operations have come to a stop".

In the old bazaar area, Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and other people told the BBC they were relieved.

For decades they had feared boarding buses or visiting temples, some said, for fear of bombs.

Now they hoped there would be peace with development.

Read this statement made by a Sri Lankan minister!!

"Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said in Colombo that Sri Lanka was able to save all Tamil civilians trapped inside the war zone without shedding a drop of blood."
