Sri Lanka's media freedom receives another blow

Sri Lanka appointed a retired general to run a leading state run TV station. According to Reuters, the move is severely criticized by the rights group as the militarization of the media. Sri Lanka’s media freedom already under sever pressure from assaults, abductions and assassination hits a new low with the attempt to militarize the media management.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) ranks Sri Lanka at 156 next to Iraq at 157 among the 15 worst in the world wide press freedom index. The attacks on media have steadily increased with impunity due to the lack of cooperation not to mention the motivation on the part of state institutions to investigate the cases of assassination, assault and abductions victimizing the journalists and media workers.
