NP Rank:
Stalin the murderous dictator? Let's Rewrite History!
Barry Artiste Op/Ed
Stalin, whose penchant for Bloodlust and Death, made Hitler look like a Nancy Boy , with over 20 million of its own citizens dead by his paranoia has had Russian schoolbooks on history rewritten to show he was a baby kissing great leader. Funny though, I guess Moscow forget Russians have internet and were not born yesteryear, though Moscow politicans wish they were.
Russian textbooks rewrite country’s traumatic past
Peter Goodspeed, National Post Published: Friday, September 04, 2009
On Sept. 1, while the international media focused on commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the start of the Second World War in Poland, Russian children returned to their classrooms to begin a new school year.
They found the world transformed. New state-approved textbooks have recast Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin into "one of the most successful leaders of the U.S.S.R."

Yeah, that Stalin was a great guy, a regular Salt (Mine) of the Earth!

Don't you talk about Uncle Joe that way! He never promised a rose garden! He was just misunderstood by the evil atomic bomb dropping west! Indeed, he only had the best interests of his fellow countrymen at heart and all those reports of mass murder on his part were purely a product of capitalist propaganda. Everyone knows that the greatest instances of genocide were perpetrated by the U.S. against the native American and black population and the peace loving Japanese and German peoples . . . .

Victory in Europe came at the cost of perhaps 25 million Russian dead. With or without the U.S., the USSR would have defeated the Nazis (tho you could argue that absent the British/American effort, the Russians may have settled for less than the total defeat of Germany).
That said, Sergei Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister, saying that, "Freedom came from the east,..." is disingenuous at best. History shows that enslavement to totalitarian soviet regimes came from the east. Better than enslavement to the nazi's? Ask a Jewish person.
