Chennai, Jan 7 (PTI) United India Insurance Chairman and Managing Director G Srinivasan has received the "Icon of the Year Award 2011" for his contribution to the insurance industry.

The award, instituted by the Cost and Works Accountants of India, was presented to city headquartered United India Insurance by Corporate Affairs Secretary R Bandyopadhyay at a function, United India Insurance said in a statement.

The award is to honour the professionals who lead the respective organisations to greater heights and setting benchmarks for the industry they were involved.

The venue for the annual Star Screen Awards was MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex and the show was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor with umpty number of humourous connotations. Latest couple of Band Baja Baraat Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh also took turns at hosting and did quite well.

“Udaan” a small film starring newcomers based on the city of Jamshedpur about teen angst and youthful dreams was adjudged the Best film and the Best Director award also went to the film’s director Vikramaditya Motwane.

The nominations for the 17th Annual Star Screen Awards 2011 has been declared.
