Startup Act - Bipartisan Initiative
Leadership
Senator Mark Warner sent me an email to let me know that he and Senator Jerry Moran are working on “Startup” legislation to support new ventures. That is a promising idea and maybe the two of them can get some bipartisan action.
I want to keep Mark in office and if he chooses to run for President I would back him. He knows that.
“Dear James,
As Congress ends a topsy-turvy year, I wanted to send you a quick update on my recent bipartisan efforts to promote new jobs and investments in our economy. It is critical that we end the partisan dysfunction in Washington and find ways to work together to solve the very real issues facing our country.
I have partnered with Kansas Republican Sen. Jerry Moran to introduce The Start-Up Act, which builds upon my 20 years in business. The Start-Up Act includes smart, targeted tools to encourage early investments in innovative, fast-growing companies:
The Start-Up Act speeds-up the transfer of research and technology from university laboratories to the marketplace – it modernizes tax policies to encourage longer-term investment of early-stage capital – it reforms visa requirements to staple a green card to the diplomas of foreign-born students earning advanced degrees and starting companies here -- and it works to identify and reform federal regulations that discourage start-up businesses.
In addition, I continue to visit with Virginia business owners to discuss their concerns about the economy and jobs. In Norfolk last week, I hosted a great give-and-take with several small business owners from across Hampton Roads. If you have a minute, I encourage you to watch this quick video about our recent small business roundtable. Finally, I plan to continue working for sensible and bipartisan solutions to our nation’s challenges in 2012. As you might gather from this recent Waynesboro News Virginianprofile, I remain almost obsessed about the need to tackle our nation’s deficit and debt challenges.
As 2011 draws to a close, I extend my best holiday wishes to you and your family, wish you well for the coming year and encourage you to stay in touch with me on issues of concern to you.
Regards,
Mark Warner”
