State GOP chair: McCain 'kind of like Jesus'

I have to say that when I first read this headline from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution I thought someone was comparing McCain to the Hispanic pronunciation of Jesus since McCain is such a supporter of the open boarder.

Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.

Jesus? Really? OK, they both suffered through a lot of pain. But Jesus, unlike McCain, actually had some deep-rooted philosophical beliefs. This is a problem for McCain.

During his whole political career he carved out a reputation as a "Maveric," which is just a euphimism for anti-conservative. But beyond that, what does he stand for?

This whole nomination is about the fact that it is McCain's "turn" just like it was Dole's "turn" back in '96. Great for the democrats, bad for us. But, hey, the democrats haven't done all that much better with their nomination. BigT
