Senior Labour MP Stephen Timms was Stabbed While at a Meeting in Beckton: Injuries Not Thought to be Life-Threatening

Stephen Timms was holding a constituency surgery in Beckton when he was approached by a 21-year-old Asian woman who leant over and then stabbed Mr. Timms twice in the stomach. As Sky News reports, there does not seem to be any motive for the attack at this stage, but it is thought that the woman suffers from mental health problems.

"Police believe there were a number of people who wanted to discuss constituency matters," Brunt said.

"According to the source she was talking to the MP, she had clearly been let in to see him.

A number of people were present when the stabbing occurred so there are plenty of witnesses to fill in the gaps about what happened.

Stephen Timms was taken to Royal London Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. He has been a Labour MP since 1994, but is not the first MP to be attacked.

Liberal Democrat MP Nigel Jones was injured in a stabbing attack in 2000 and his aide Andrew Pennington was stabbed to death. Their attacker Robert Ashman was jailed for manslaughter and attempted murder.
