Steve Doocy's Grade School Logic
While reporting on a story about military contractor Trijicon's decision to remove Bible passages from its rifle scopes, Fox and Friend's Steve Doocy decided to take the "high road". He quoted his wife in basically saying that since the Muslims "started it"-- the IT being the radical Muslims battle cry of Allahu Akbar-- that "we" had the right to have Bible passages on our weapons.
Really? This is the "reasoning" and "intellect" used by Republican pundits to defend a moronic policy? "They started it"?! That's that argument? You see, this is why religion (or religious nuts) have no business dealing in politics-- radical Muslims AND radical Christians included!
I guess it's a good thing that people like Doocy are left to merely report on these things form a comfy studio, as opposed to making important decisions about foreign policy. Even General Petraeus called this revelation "disturbing". Trijicon has said that they will send modification kits out to remove the numbers from the scopes. Looks like their tagline "Brilliant Aiming Solutions" does not apply to their judgement.
Kill first, ask questions never. That's the Republican's foreign policy credo. And this is why we are in this situation in the first place. If certain Americans could only stop finding reasons to kill brown people, we may not have to be on the defense all the time. And using one man's religious fervor to try to quell ANOTHER man's religious fervor gets us nowhere. There are many reasons why we were attacked on 9/11....NONE OF THEM have to do with Muslims hating us "for our freedom". And the more we follow this knee-jerk Neo-con crap, the worse things will get.

You only have to look at the numbers of Muslims who come to the west and enjoy the freedoms there to know that it is not that drives the hatred. Their is an amount of jealousy involved I think, but most of it is lack of and mis information. And certainly, having that kind of garbage on guns would do nothing to bring people to the table.

Did Trijicon have the verses in the scopes before 9/11?
No.
Did any muslims, anywhere in the world even know the verses were on the scopes before last week?
No.
Duh!

I guess that's your point? "Duh!"? I would comment further, but well...my brain cells didn't get enough of a workout after reading that comment. In fact, I think a few just fizzed away like flat soda.

Q1 I don't know, did they?
Q2 I have no idea, maybe they have no idea at all what we in the west get up to, but they know now.
Q3 What's the motive behind this piece, I have voiced concerns about the US's foreign policies (as I have in this country about the UK's) but I don't think even the republicans can be accused of that particular credo.
Well said Hugh.

I can see, Mr. stejeb, that my "approach" is a bit off-putting to you. Fair enough-- that's not the first time I've heard that (and you won't be the last to say it).
From what I have seen, many people-- who claim to be Republican (or their offshoots, such as the "teabaggers"-- seem to want to hate ANYONE of Middle Eastern descent or Muslim influence. I mean, look at what's out there-- calls for racial profiling, calls to bomb Iran and Yemen (well, we ARE bombing Yemen...). Look at the last 11 years of American foreign policy (with the UK acting as lapdogs right behind us...). ESPECIALLY under the Bush Administration-- you didn't DARE question them, and when you did you were called UNAMERICAN or a traitor. So yes, the point stands: "Kill first, ask questions never." Now, to call that a "Republican" response was probably not the best choice of words...but since there are no Democratic Neo-Conservatives (that I know of anyway)...I will stand behind those words.

I'm a life-long supporter of equal rights, and I've taken part in so many rallies, against apartheid, against wars this country has got us embroiled in over the years and many others. I detest discrimination on any grounds. I am white, I was brought up by racist parents, that didn't make me into one, there is a point in anyones' life where they can make a choice, I got there and made mine, and I take pride in the fact that my children have been brought up free from prejudice, and encouraged to make up their own minds about issues, whether it be race, religion or sexuality. I don't criticise your beliefs my friend, just the methods you are using to put them across to a very varied and in the main very educated and sopihisticated audience.

Your resumé and upbringing aside, no one was criticizing your beliefs; I certainly was not (I'm not quite sure where you got that from). And a "very educated and sophisticated audience", in my opinion, would understand a "varied" approach, as you put it. And speaking of criticism directed at anyone, you are, in ALL of your posts, criticizing me...and I'm not taking offense to it at all. I'm answering every single one of your replies directly and without any condescending language or name-calling or anything like that.
This goes to the greater point that I was making earlier about the ability to hold a conversation about issues without getting defensive. Again, yes...my approach can be off-putting. I understand that-- I am not disagreeing with you. BUT...if you are offended THAT MUCH...why are you reading it? Why are you acknowledging me? It would seem that if I was such a horribly controversial figure here, you would be better off ignoring me than trying to make some points to me about what a post-racial man you are. Good for you-- I think that's great (no sarcasm at all). But you, in your criticism, are making your own set of accusations about who you think I am.
I have explained myself, and my point of view, and my approach, several times already. And if you STILL don't get it...I'm sorry. I can't say any more than that. I offend you, so be it. Leave it alone.
