Union officials have failed to reach a deal, and strikes are set to go ahead on Scotland's rail network.

450 members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union will walk out today on the first of two 24-hour strikes. The next strike will start at noon on Thursday.

Commuters throughout Scotland face disruption as rail signal staff stage the first of two 24-hour strikes.

The Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) said 450 staff were due to walk out from midday on Tuesday and at the same time on Thursday.

The RMT said the row was over transfer and roster agreements but Network Rail said there was no justification for the industrial action.

Most train services will not run and roads are expected to be busy.
