Strike at oil refinery under way, Panic in Scotland

People in Scotland are scrambling to tank up fuel after 1200 staff working at Grangemouth Oil refinery went on strike in a long standing pension row.

Garages have already started rationing and even increased prices amidst the fear of shortages. In the meantime Scottish government has requistioned extra supply of about 65,000 tonnes of fuels from nearby areas.

The two-day strike at Grangemouth oil refinery has started, with 1,200 staff walking out in a pensions row.

Production has already ceased at the plant - Scotland's only oil refinery - ahead of the strike. BP has also shut its key Forties oil pipeline.

There has already been disruption at some petrol stations, but ministers say there is enough fuel to go round. Extra supplies are being shipped from Europe.
