Stuart Chaifetz Wires Son Aikan, Records Bullying by Teachers
Aikan Chaifetz: Autistic Kid Bullied by Students, Teachers (Video)
When Stuart Chaifetz was told that his 10-year-old son Aikan was having "violent outbursts" at school, and that Aikan had hit a teacher and an aide, he thought that something sounded fishy.
Aikan is an autistic boy, enrolled at Horace Mann Elementary School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. According to Stuart, Aikan has no history of violence, and the school behaviorist was unable to replicate a scenario in which Aikan would attack someone.
Stuart Chaifetz sent Aikan to school wearing a wire. Aikan ended up recording 6 1/2 hours of audio, which uncovered a disturbing trend: Aikan was being verbally abused by his teacher, Jodi Rosenfeld, and her aide, Kelly Altenberg.
Stuart Chaifetz posted part of the audio recording to YouTube, where it is quickly going viral. You can see the video below.
Kelly Altenberg was fired after Stuart Chaifetz brought the tapes to the Cherry Hill School District, but Jodi Rosenfeld was moved to another school. A spokesperson for the Cherry Hill School District said, "This is a personnel matter that the school district took seriously and handled appropriately and there will be no further comment", clearly in hopes that this whole thing would go away.
However, Stuart Chaifetz is not mollified. He wants to know why Jodi Rosenfeld still has a job with the school district, and he wants a public apology for how his son was treated at school.
It is also far past time that these issues are allowed to be hidden from public view. If a teacher bullies a child, especially one with Special Needs, they need to be immediately fired.
No second chances.
No more teacher bullies.
