Student activist killed in fake police encounter
Punjabi police officers posted in Quetta, capital of Baluchistan, killed a young student after finding pictures of Baluch resistance leaders on his mobile phone. They then portrayed the student as an alleged robber and many of the Punjabi and mohajir media networks carried the police version without ascertaining the facts.
Killing of innocent citizens in fake police encounters is common in Pakistan and some other South Asian nations.
In Pakistan, the problem is compounded because many of the media groups, like Dawn, Jang and Nation, mostly prospered under different military regimes.
The area-wsie largest Baluchistan province was not a part of Pakistan when the British left India divided in August 1947. It was annexed in March, 1948 and the Baluch have fought five wars against the usurpation of their statehood by Pakistan.
