Sir, While debate rages in England about the high costs of student fees, there is a section of us who seem to be falling between the cracks, with no one to turn to for justice. I am here on a valid work permit ith my family, from India. I pay my income tax, national insurance and council tax. I am not eligible for any benefits. I am employed by a British compan y on permanent basis, who pay me a local salary. We have now completed 3 years here, and my son is completing his A levels. He is keen to go to university, and a few have made conditional offers after he applied through UCAS. But all of them seek 'foreign' fees, which is about 15000 pounds/year for tution alone. My son is not eligible for student loan either. How am I to support him with such a large amount ? There is no answer. Being a non-European in the UK means you are thrown in the deep end. Either forget sending your kids to college or resign from job, pack up, and look for a job elsewhere. So much for British sense of fair play!
