Student Protest Tuition Fee Increases: Minority Violent- Millbank Tower, Conservative Party Headquarters Hit (video)

A massive crowd of university students in London took to the streets to protest the tripling of their tuition fees. Though the vast majority of the estimated 50 thousand student protesters were peaceful, a small minority managed to get into the Conservative Party Headquarters, Millbank Tower.

In chaotic scenes, around 20 students got into the lobby of Millbank, a 1960s office building near the Houses of Parliament that houses the Conservative Party, an AFP reporter said.

The protesters inside the office block clashed with police who hit them with batons as they tried to round them up.

Outside, police barricaded the entrance to the building.

The university student protest was organized by various student organizations

As many as 50,000 students from across the UK travelled to the capital for the rally, which was arranged by the National Union of Students (NUS) and University and College Union (UCU).

However, NUS president Aaron Porter has branded those responsible an "utter disgrace", while the Metropolitan Police commissioner has admitted it is an "embarrassment" for his force.

The UK government's move to increase university tuition fees directly contradicts a pre-election promise made by the Liberal Democrats of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, the junior partners in Britain's coalition government.
