From a thought-provoking article by author, photographer, and journalist David Quigg, titled, "Israel, Hamas, Gaza: Plenty of Us in America Just Need to Shut Up".

"Some Differences Between Hamas and the Nazi Party" turned out to be a recent blog post by Ron Rosenbaum, the author of Explaining Hitler and other books. Here's the first of the curious differences Rosenbaum detailed in his post:

"The Hamas founding covenant explicitly calls for the extermination of all Jews. Hitler never made total extermination an official plank of the the Nazi party platform. (see Holocaust scholar Omar Bartov's article in the February 2, 2004 issue of The New Republic. He points to the extermiationist [sic] 7th article of the founding Hamas covenanat [sic] which cites the Hadith (saying of the prophet). Here is a translation of the Hadith in a deeply disturbing summary of Hamas' exterminationist anti-semitism by the Brown University scholar Andrew Bostom:

"'The Prophet, Allah's prayer and peace be upon him, says: "The hour of judgment shall not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, so that the Jews hide behind trees and stones, and each tree and stone will say: 'Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him,' except for the Gharqad tree, for it is the tree of the Jews." (Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 6985)'

"In other words, Hamas is not committed merely to the political goal of expelling Jews from the land of Israel but to what they believe is a sacred religious goal of exterminating all Jews everywhere behind every tree in creation. (I'm not pinning any hopes on "the Gharqad tree"). I'd suggest those who deceive themselves into believing Hamas is just another Palestinian rights group, maybe a little on the extreme side, read the whole Bostom article. The exterminationist anti-semitism of Hamas is more excessive than Hitler's.

Quigg's response to the forwarded e-mail that brought Rosenbaum and his analysis into Quigg's Monday evening can be read at the link.

Wow, scary and strangely interesting at the same time.

Amy, thank you for reading, commenting, and for the recommendation! I think Quigg's final analysis is very interesting as well: "So few of us would be able to face the ghosts of the dead and justify why we cheered on Israel or why we made excuses for Hamas. We should shut up."

Religious nuts and other bigots all over the world proclaim all kinds of incendary statements.  Over Northern Ireland, we had to face terrible bigots talking on the BBC each night.  Yet, in the end, slowly, bit by tedious bit, these dreadful bigots managed to agree to a Peace, in spite of all the hateful things they said.

Its not perfect:  but it works.

I think repeating these statements does not help the peace process.  The London Financial Times (probably the most respectable, conservative paper in the UK) says Hamas is right not to recognise Israel - at present.  Recognition should be part of Hamas' bagaining strategy.

So I don't support you, Rhonda, in publishing this.

Agreed.

Hamas has, in the past agreed to recognise Israel with conditions.

Hamas: Ceasefire for return to 1967 border

Jan 2006

Until Israel says what its final borders will be, Hamas will not say whether it will ever recognize Israel, Zahar said. "If Israel is ready to tell the people what is the official border, after that we are going to answer this question."

Why won't Israel say what its final borders will be?

That is as I thought although I did not know chapter and verse.  I think we need to hold on to this, rather than quote their consitution.  After all, Hamas is hardly likely to change their constitution until a final peace is achieved.  Thanks for adding this quote.

Welcome to the Jerusalem post on NP, first nobody in America needs to shut up like Quigg says, it is still a free country. Second it is about Palestine and the attack On the UN school what is a barbaric NAZI act. I can also not share Rosenbaum"s swing from Hitler to Hammas, he forgot the smart massacre extermination of the Palestine people by Israel.

hi SOLARLIFE! Thank you for reading, commenting, and for the recommendation. Regarding: "...first nobody in America needs to shut up like Quigg says, it is still a free country."

You are very much entitled to your Opinion and I thank you for sharing it. However, Mr. Quigg is also entitled to his Opinion, a part of which states:

"Thanks for doing your best to make sure I was informed if I chose to blog about this. I doubt I will. If I do, my blog post will probably just be a plea for everyone as ignorant as me to refrain from taking sides. So few of us would be able to face the ghosts of the dead and justify why we cheered on Israel or why we made excuses for Hamas. We should shut up."

Every religion has it's radicals, even Christianity, Judiasm, and also Islam.

The sad part of it is that no one realizes it isn't about religion, it's about power, greed, and territory, water, food and mineral resources. Oh, yes, and don't forget political ambitions...and they TV Evangelists, some rabbis and also many clerics are behind the conflicts.

You can't separate law from religion with some sects and when people realize this, respect it, while making sure there are no human rights violations, then peace may come.

But, you can't separate religion from the law in some countries...it's against their very culture...

Respect and peace is difficult when mercenaries and soldiers need jobs.

Art_By_Alida, thank you for reading and commenting. "The sad part of it is that no one realizes it isn't about religion,...":

"In the post cold war world, ethnic conflicts are legion and religion is often involved since it forms part of group identity. The ravages of ethnicity and nationalism with a "religious" tinge are simply the biggest political problem of our time. There are many causes, but many groups cannot cope with a plural world and religious fundamentalism is, alas, a part of this."

Consequently, The Geneva Spiritual Convention Appeal, signed in October 1999.

Radicals or extremist may use religion as a medium, however it is not about religion for them. Power, Hate, dominance and on, yet now truth nor reason. They would kill they own people just to keep in power. Same can be fund in all religion .

With Israel, it's about religion, peace, and security. Nothing more. Israel doesn't want to destroy the Palestinians, they want to live in peace with the Palestinians. Don't believe me? Take a look at Egypt, currently brokering a peace initiative and no friend of Hamas. At one time, before many of you were old enough, Egypt and Israel fought terrible wars. Israel won in '67 and Egypt won in '73. The point is that they now have a lasting (20+ years) peace and recognized borders between them that neither will cross again. Where's Israel's aggression towards Egypt? Where's Israel's genocide against Egyptians? It doesn't exist. And it doesn't exist for Palestinians either.

Think carefully about how many "peace lovers" stood up against rockets from Hamas targeting innocent women and children in Sderot. Can't remember any? Neither can I. It's real easy to make the claim that Israel is trying to acquire land or wants genocide or mineral rights or water or whatever else allows the blinders to cover the truth. Israel wants to be a shining example of G-d's love for humanity. Non-Jews are tasked with healing the physical world. Jews are tasked with healing the spiritual world. Yes, we're not all the same. Deal with it. But remember, just because Jews are peace loving people doesn't mean we have to sit by and let our weakest family members suffer at the hands of fascist terrorists that seek to bring darkness to the world.

Let me complete this sentence, in bold letters.

Yes, sadly, Jews were targeted in India and the Indian gov't decided to turn the horrendous attacks on Jews and foreigners into an anti-Pakistani charade.

In case anyone is wondering, the Jews will never leave a city again. Our young rabbis and their wives are sent to places because that location in the world needs a candle of humanity and civilization. Darkness, in the form of terrorism and anti-semitism will seek to snuff out the light.

Each one of us can choose to stand by the peace lovers or we can "champion" the underdogs of darkness and hatred. Don't believe me? Despite all the bloodshed, have you ever heard Hamas ask for negotiations or a ceasefire? Of course not. The screams for a cease-fire are coming from the EU and the UN. Hamas doesn't want a cease-fire because those who are wrapped in darkness get an almost sexual thrill from death. When normal people think of death they have a survival instinct. When Hamas thinks of death, they get excited and think about the virgins they'll violate. Hitler had a similar issue - some say he was a virgin until just before he committed suicide and then, on the verge of death, either by his hand or by the allies, he has intercourse with Eva Braun. Would YOU do that? Would YOU be thinking of sex while your army was in full retreat and your Third Reich was collapsing and you were so pained that you were on the verge of taking your own life? No, most of us separate sex, a creative act and an affirmation of life, from death, the cessation of our efforts in this world to make it a better place. Do you stand with life? Do you stand with death? There is no middle ground.
