Sudanese army announces control of Jabal Moun area
Khartoum (ANTARA News/Xinhua) - The Sudanese army announced on Tuesday that it had taken control of Jabal Moun area in the country`s western region of Darfur following a fighting with militants of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).
"The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) managed on Tuesday morning to clear Jabal Moun and impose its full control on the area, inflicting great losses in the enemy," SAF spokesman Osman Mohamed Al-Aghbash said in a statement.
According to the spokesman, eight soldiers were killed and 15 wounded in the fighting in the area northwest of Genaina town in the West Darfur State.
The SAF carried out the combating operation after the JEM, supported by Chadian troops and equipment, had cut the road between Genaina and Kulbous, depriving the citizens at Kulbous from basic needs of life, said Al-Aghbash.
In view that the rebel movement received anti-aircraft weapons from Chad and began targeting civilian planes, it was impossible to transport food supplies to the local citizens by air, he added.
Since the beginning of this month, the Sudanese army has carried out a large-scale miliary campaign in border areas in western Sudan, forcing a large number of rebels to escape.(*) END
