BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi officials report a suicide bomber targeted U.S.-allied fighters today, killing at least eight people.

They say another 20 people were wounded in the attack north of Baghdad.

Iraqi security forces and members of an anti-al-Qaida group opened fire as vehicle sped toward a joint checkpoint, but the attacker still managed to detonate his explosives.

Meanwhile, Iraqi police said four civilians were killed at an Iraqi Army checkpoint south of Mosul when a tanker truck exploded. An officer there says Iraqi soldiers had fired on the tanker in an attempt to avert a suicide attack.
