So the latest data released in the U.S. President Barack Obama will give a decision about sending 40 thousand additional troops to Afghanistan.
The data shows the number of suicides of soldiers still on active duty so far in the year 2009 has matched last year's record of 140 deaths. Such as reported by Reuters news agency on Wednesday (18/11/2009).
In addition, as many as 71 soldiers committed suicide in 2009 after years inactive duty. Or almost 25 percent more than the total for the year 2008. Some even just a few weeks back home before the end of their lives.
The data comes only from the U.S. Army.
General of Peter Chiarelli, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army warned not to generalize the causes of suicide or relate it to stress the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because a third of all soldiers who committed suicide had not been stationed abroad.
