Sukna land scam case: Indian millitary
New Delhi: Sukna land scam case belong to Indian millitary secretary Lt-Gen Avadhesh Prakash and four General, now in time pressure is mounting on Army chief General Deepak Kapoor for indicted in the alleged Sukna land scam case people, before the latter retires on January 31. "The court of inquiry (CoI) report and the recommendations were sent to Gen Kapoor on December 23...He has to take a view on it. The chief is aware of it (Lt-Gen Prakash's retirement on January 31) and will take a responsible decision,'' said a senior defence ministry source on Thursday. This comes after defence minister A K Antony met Gen Kapoor on December 24 to seek a status report on the case and held that corruption should be dealt with `absolute sternness' to send the correct message down the ranks. Eastern Army Command chief Lt-Gen V K Singh, who is slated to replace Gen Kapoor as Army chief on March 31, has recommended the immediate "termination of services'' of Lt-Gen Prakash, who is one of the eight principal staff officers of Gen Kapoor at the Army HQ here. Disciplinary action in the shape of a court martial has been recommended against the then 33 Corps chief Lt-Gen P K Rath, whose appointment as the new Army deputy chief (information systems and training) has already been cancelled, and Major-General P C Sen. The then deputy chief of 33 Corps, Lt-Gen Ramesh Halgali, in turn, is likely to face administrative action like an official reprimand.
The other indicted officers were all serving with the 33 Corps in Darjeeling district of West Bengal when the alleged conspiracy to aid the transfer of a 71-acre tea estate adjacent to the Sukna military station there took place earlier this year.
