The SUN, Not AGW, Is The Thing
The SUN, Not AGW, Is The Thing
Riding here on the Oblate Spheroid, it is easy to get lost in and amongst all the humanity and forget the connections to the natural cycles that have formed the orb we populate.
Take Climate Change (aka - Global Warming and Climate Stabilization), for example - many are putting forth a concept the the major influence on why the climate of this planet varies is related to human activity.
The hypothesis focuses upon the effects for accumulations of "Green House Gasses" as in CO2 ... the used air we exhale. In none of these calculations, however, do these people (many who look to control human behavior and profit off of business activity centered upon this control) take into account that plants take in CO2, and through osmosis give off Oxygen, and further, none of these hypothesis account for the largest functioning body in our specific solar system ... The SUN!Past studies have shown that sunspot numbers correspond to warming or cooling trends. The twentieth century has featured heightened activity, indicating a warming trend. Solar activity has shown a major spike in the twentieth century, corresponding to global warming. This cyclic variation was acknowledged by a recent NASA study, which reviewed a great deal of past climate data. Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons

NASA Study Acknowledges Solar Cycle, Not Man, Responsible for Past Warming - Report indicates solar cycle has been impacting Earth since the Industrial Revolution
Michael Andrews - June 4, 2009 9:37 AM
Some researchers believe that the solar cycle influences global climate changes. They attribute recent warming trends to cyclic variation. Skeptics [read this as control profiteers], though, argue that there's little hard evidence of a solar hand in recent climate changes.
Now, a new research report from a surprising source may help to lay this skepticism to rest. A study from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland looking at climate data over the past century has concluded that solar variation has made a significant impact on the Earth's climate. The report concludes that evidence for climate changes based on solar radiation can be traced back as far as the Industrial Revolution.
Past research has shown that the sun goes through eleven year cycles. At the cycle's peak, solar activity occurring near sunspots is particularly intense, basking the Earth in solar heat. According to Robert Cahalan, a climatologist at the Goddard Space Flight Center, "Right now, we are in between major ice ages, in a period that has been called the Holocene."
Thomas Woods, solar scientist at the University of Colorado in Boulder concludes, "The fluctuations in the solar cycle impacts Earth's global temperature by about 0.1 degree Celsius, slightly hotter during solar maximum and cooler during solar minimum. The sun is currently at its minimum, and the next solar maximum is expected in 2012." According to the study, during periods of solar quiet, 1,361 watts per square meter of solar energy reaches Earth's outermost atmosphere. Periods of more intense activity brought 1.4 watts per square meter (0.1 percent) more energy.
----
The inconvertible fact, here is that even NASA's own study acknowledges that solar variation has caused climate change in the past. And even the study's members, mostly ardent supports of AGW [anthropogenic global warming] theory, acknowledge that the sun may play a significant role in future climate changes.

You see Ed, it is all a mater of stress factors put on a system.
In this case it is the ecosystem. The more stress is put on it the more it is likely to break, fall apart or even die as our Environment is doing lately.
Like a power plant, a house, a car or a living entity such as us Human. Can handle a certain amount of stresses put on it, exceeding that amount we cause, harm, damage or even death.
There are stress factors we can control and some we can not control. Like when we drive on the road we can can control our driving and behave, however we can not control the driving of others nor earthquakes that may affect us wile we are driving.
Same goes for the environment. We can control the stress we cause and put on our planet by stopping our pollution and cleaning up our mess and by doing so we reduce the stress the earth has to deal with and help the planet being able to deal with stress factors that we can do nothing about, yet that could kill us all the same if our planet can no longer compensate for the additional stress put on it because we Humans with our pollution have caused the planet to be over extended and there for die and us with it.
Some thing I was though by my Physics Professor wile Studying for my Chemical Engineer. "It is all a matter of Stress factors and keeping the Balance of each Atom. Once the stress tolerance exceeded, all hell breaks lose."
We can do our part by keeping us in line and stop our stress on the planet, we can not control the Sun though, however we can help the Earth to cope with it by not adding more trouble and not weakening it any more but rather helping it and straightening our planet.
Saying other wise is a bad excuse and will not hold up in an environmental court of law.

The neglect of our planet seems to be falling on deaf ears.Everyday there are warnings about how these gasses destroy our earth. Some people bother some dont how can us who care make it better while others destroy it daily. Can we keep up with the destruction.

We (the United States) are one of the cleanest (if not the cleanest) manufacturing country in the world - can we improve? ... sure, but let the world talk to others about leadership in cleanliness. As far as Climate Change, Climate Stabilization, Global Warming and etc. go sit down and re-arrange your argument - CO2 is not in control ... the SUN is!
Have faith that only YOU can control your CLEAN!!!

Thanks for this insightful article. Had we not understood the 11 year solar cycle, radio operators would think their radios were working correctly as at the solar peak chatting with Australians each night. Just 6 years later your couldn't chat with VK3 Land and one would think their radio was damaged. It isn't the radio at all but the sunspot cycle that determines radio propagation. Since we have science we know that every 11 years or so communications will get better and diminish. We could say that the change is due to a radio that cycles each 11 years and get it wrong had we not had science to help
Then there are solar storms and X class flares that destroy radio communications in the Shortwave bands completely.
During the solar peak around 1989 Fairbanks Alaska had some of the coldest temputures on record. One day in Feb it went down to -73 degrees with no wind. During this time we were researching seasonal affective disorder another diurnal and seasonal disorder. We later found that some of our data could have been influenced by the solar peak and the several x class flares that occured during the study. We added that information in a note as humans mood and behavior could be influenced by electro-magnetic activity.
I said all that to say, we are not totally aware of all the varibles. Just looking at a themometer rise over time does not global warming make. Its good that you shed light on the fact that there are many different cycles occuring at once and can contribute to warming and cooling. In the 70s we were heading for an Ice age because of several cold winters.. I would be sure that folks wouldn't make the same mistake. But I am also aware that folks have a short memory.

I am for clean air and if any hype or theory helps to eradicate pollution then its got my vote.
