Susana Villarán Leads Lourdes Flores in Lima Mayor Race

Whether Susana Villarán or Lourdes Flores wins the Lima mayoral race, Peru's capital will have its first-ever elected female Mayor. However, as Susana Villarán leads by a slim margin, Lima may have its first Leftist mayor in 20 years.

First results put Ms Villaran on 38.9% and Ms Flores on 37.2%.

Sunday's elections were being closely watched as a possible indicator of voter sentiment ahead of next April's presidential poll.
