Berne Police Investigate Suspect Package at EU Embassy
Even as police in Rome check embassies for suspect packages after the bomb blasts at the Chilean and Swiss embassies, Swiss police have found a suspect package at the European Union embassy in Berne. Authorities have not said whether they believe the Berne package to be related to the Rome packages.
Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini commented on the two blasts in Rome, saying, "This is a deplorable act of violence that deserves our complete condemnation." Frattini did not say who was believed to be behind the attacks, though police are looking at anarchist groups.
Parts of the building have been cleared and the package was being investigated, a spokeswoman for Berne police said.
Following the blasts police in the Italian capital visited all foreign embassies in the city as a security precaution and later there was also a false alarm at the Ukrainian embassy.
