A Canadian of Pakistani origin who was arrested on suspicion of planning to blow up a Boeing 777 flying from Toronto to Karachi has been released without charges, Swedish prosecutors said Saturday.

"The prosecutor on duty decided not to keep the man suspected of having explosives on the airplane in detention," prosecutors said in a statement.

"The suspicions against this man are not sufficiently solid to keep him in detention and so he is free to leave Sweden," the statement said, adding that "no further information can be given for moment".

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight, which had to make an emergency landing in Stockholm after a bomb alert, took off for Manchester at 5:00 pm (1505 GMT), an airport spokesman said
