Suspicious Vehicle in Manhattan Sept 2: Park Avenue Reopened
A Suspicious Vehicle Parked Along Park Avenue in Manhattan Disrupted Traffic Thursday Afternoon
Police were called to investigate the 'suspicious' looking black Mercedes after it was parked at an odd angle on Park Avenue at East 51st Street.
MyFoxNY reports that the vehicle had been there since 6am and 'the trunk appeared to be weighted down' so police were called in as a precaution. They also report that a suitcase was removed from the car, and a Koran was among the objects found inside the car, but police did not say it had any relevance to the car being left on the side of the road. They also investigated what looked to be blood on the front seat at first, but turned out to be only fruit juice.
Traffic heading south on Park Avenue was entirely blocked from East 50th to East 57th streets, while traffic heading north on Park was only blocked off from East 50th to East 52nd streets.
The car was towed around 5pm and all the streets have been reopened.
People should still expect delays in this area as traffic is heavily backed up.
