British Move Against Russia Veto Will "Dissolve" the United Nations

According to statements from British Foreign Secretary William Hague, the Brits have already launched plans to overthrow Assad -- warning the Russians that they are being held responsible for Assad's actions.

Charges that Syria allegedly breached the Turkish and Lebanese borders to fire on Syrian refugees are being used in leading British and Saudi mouthpieces, including the London Telegraph, the Times of London, and the Arab language Asharq al Awsat (to name a few), to demand a new UN resolution declaring the Kofi Annan plan "dead," and that Assad be removed.

According to Turkish Weekly, April 10, Hague asserted that "the [Syrian] regime has violated the sovereignty of Turkey and Lebanon, firing over Syria's borders at people desperately seeking to find refuge from the regime's onslaught," and that Assad had used the April 10 deadline as "a cover for intensified military efforts to crush Syria's opposition."

"They have ruthlessly subjected whole communities to an inhumane campaign of shelling, forced expulsions, and executions. They have attempted to attach unacceptable eleventh-hour conditions to a ceasefire agreement as a pretext for continuing the violence," Hague said, according to Turkish Weekly.

Hague says that British government will "intensify our support for the Syrian opposition, and support others seeking to do the same." He also said Britain "will begin the process of seeking the referral by the Security Council of the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court."

"President Assad and his closest cronies should be under no doubt that they will be held to account for their actions. All those with influence over the Syrian leadership, including Russia, have a duty to back efforts to stop the violence and to isolate a regime which is as doomed as it is dangerous to the Syrian people," Hague said.

Primakov: Russia will Not Back Down in Opposing Overthrow of Assad

Voice of Russia published an exclusive interview with Academician Yevgeny Primakov, a former Foreign Minister, former Prime Minister of Russia, and senior Russian expert on the Middle East, in which he warns that a foreign-backed civil war has already begun in Syria, and that unless an agreement under the current "Annan Plan" is reached, this will become a bigger religious war.

"Kofi Annan is a very intelligent and balanced man. He will not take one side only because the U.S. or some European states do so," said Primakov. "I'm sure of it. In regard to Syria this means that you need to create conditions for a ceasefire from both sides.

{You can't just blame the government, demand unilateral actions from it and at the same time inflame the opposition behind the scenes, equipping it with arms and creating a favorable background for it from the propaganda point of view.} [Emphasis added.]

I understood that Kofi Annan would not adhere to such a line. And indeed, he suggested a plan, which was approved by Russia, and by China, and the rest of the countries as well. The question is now, how this plan will be executed. The main condition was cease-fire on both sides.

Primakov stressed that the Syrian government agreed to the plan, but the opposition has never agreed to it.

"[...] as you remember, recently the so-called `friends of Syria' met and discussed the issue of supplying weapons to the opposition," Primakov said. "Now, where is the guarantee that the opposition will not start an armed assault on the government just after the withdrawal of the government troops from the cities? It is necessary to work not only with the government of Syria, but also with the opposition.

We, and the Chinese, too, are working with the government on this issue. But nobody is conducting similar work with the opposition. {On the contrary, these `friends' often incite the opposition, support, and even arm it.} [Emphasis added.]
