Syrian state Television has confirmed that the army has entered the town of Jisr al-Shughour in the north west of the country. The army moved in after the government said that 120 security personnel had been killed there. Official figures shows some 4,300 people have fled into neighboring Turkey, some describing tanks armed soldiers and helicopter gunship being used in the military assault. Apart from a few families most civilians had realized what was about to happen and had left Jisr al-Shughour in the days before the assault. There are consistent reports of the army burning crops and killing livestock.
