PESHAWAR: Pakistani Taliban based at the gun-manufacturing Darra Adamkhel town Saturday claimed to have beheaded a Polish engineer Peter Stanczak, whom they have kidnapped on September 28, 2008 from Attock area in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Punjab province of the country.
The militants are affiliated with Pakistan’s dreaded militant commander Baitullah Mahsud-led Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The militant have threatened to behead the Polish engineer, if Pakistan government did not accept their demands till February 4, 2009.
They later extended their deadline on the appeal of tribal elders but warned to kill him if their demands were not accepted before the deadline.
The militants were demanding the release of their 60 colleagues, caught by the country’s armed forces and intelligence agencies in connection with their involvement in various terrorist attacks in the country, mainly on security forces and government installations.
A spokesman for the Darra Adamkhel Taliban, Muhammad called media persons and claimed they beheaded the Polish engineer after their deadline expired Friday midnight.
“We decided to behead him as the government failed to release our colleagues imprisoned in various jails and in the custody of intelligence agencies,” explained the purported spokesman of the militants.
He also said they were angry over frequent US drone attacks in the tribal areas as these attacks are being carried out with the connivance of Pakistan government.
Polish Engineer Peter Stanczak was working in Poland National Seismic Survey when kidnapped by Taliban near Pind Sultani area of Jund in Attock during fieldwork on September 28, 2008.
The Taliban have killed his driver Inayatullah, security guard Muhammad Saleem and public relation officer of the firm Riaz on that occasion.
On October 14, 2008, the Taliban militants issued a video, in which Polish Engineer Peter had appealed to both the Pakistan and Polish governments to accept demands of his captors so that they could release him.
However, Pakistan has not officially confirmed the killing of Polish engineer.
“We have been hearing these reports but can’t confirm until and unless we receive his body,” said a senior government official based Orakzai Agency, Pakistan’s tribal region where the Polish engineer was held by his captors.
